The Department of Economics and Statistics Cognetti de Martiis is currently leading the SPOKE 5 (Innovation Ecosystemcs for te Circular Economy) of the GRINS (Growing, Resilient, INclusive, and Sustainable) project financed by the Next Generation EU program (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), aimed at favoring resilient, inclusive, and sustainable growth.

The 3-year project is carried out by an extended partnership involving 350 researchers belonging to 25 entities (13 universities, 3 research centers, 9 public and private entities) with a total budget above 100 million euros.

GRINS has the goal of delivering a data platform giving access to high quality data and instruments for data analysis with a very fine spatial breakdown for a wide range of applications. It will offer tools to support fundamental and applied research on firms, households, public administrations, sustainable finance, innovation, low carbon policies, regional disparities, social sustainability.

GRINS is a multi-disciplinary project that combines experts in empirical analysis in economics, statistics, econometrics, managerial studies, ex-ante and ex-post policy evaluation, urban and regional studies, environmental and climate economics, data privacy law and ethics, software engineering, machine learning and explainable AI methods, technological and knowledge transfers.

The faculty involved in the project is mainly focused on the following research areas:  Econometrics, Environmental and resource economics, Experimental and behavioral economics, Health economics, International and spatial economics, Labor and household economics, Political economy, Public economics, Social economics.

Minimum constraints in resource allocation: 40% for lagging regions in the South of Italy, 40% for low carbon and resilience to climate change, 30% for circular economy, 30% for investments in intangibile assets, 40% for women.
