Descrizione del progetto

This grant was used to set up the reserach infrastructure for CLOSER, Center for Laboratory Simulations and Experimental Research.

CLOSER is an interdipartimental research center with an experimental lab funded by Compagnia di S. Paolo, Collegio Carlo Alberto, and three Departments of University of Turin, namely Dept. of Economics & Statistics “Cognetti de Martiis”, Dept. of Culture, Politics and Society, and Dept. of Economics and Social Science, Mathematics and Statistics “ESOMAS”.

The physical infrastructure of CLOSER set up thanks to this initial funding includes 24 laptops and dividers across fully mobile laptop-chairs in Campus Luigi Einaudi (experiments can be programmed and run also online), and a recruitment platform composed by about 3500 students of UniTo that signed up to participate into experiments.

The “research” infrastructure embeds social, psychological and economic expertise on the drivers of individuals’ choice, on measurement of physiological parameters in decision-making tasks (joint with Dept. of Chemistry), and on quantitative evaluation of interventions/policies based on randomized-control-trials.

More specifically, research applications include, among others: i) the analysis of individuals’ decision-making process, e.g. the identification of psychological biases preventing people from adopting sustainable decisions, the measurement of individual preferences or willingness to pay/accept in different scenarios, the investigation of individuals’ behavioral and physiological reactions to multiple stimuli; and ii) the evaluation of specific policy interventions, e.g. identification and test of low-cost nudging interventions aimed at pushing people towards environmentally desirable or health-improving choices, and identification of hypothetical scenarios to be tested through choice experiments. Specific fields of application/keywords: Environmental policies/interventions; Health policies/interventions; Marketing strategies;   Social interactions; Sharing; Smart mobility; Energy-saving behavior; Behavioral change.
